BLP STORIES

STEPHANIE’S STORY

Synchrony invests in me and trusts me to be a future leader.

Technology is the future, and it’s something I’ve always been interested in. The Technology track in Synchrony’s BLP was a great starting point for my career. It gave me a wide range of experiences across technology through three diverse roles in two years.

I also saw how Synchrony invests in my growth and trusts me to be a future leader of the company. Just two months after starting, I presented to the CIO on one of her projects, and I’ve had numerous other opportunities to interact with leadership. These experiences prepared me to step right into a role as a Digital Scrum Master for our Native Apps team immediately following the BLP.

I work at our headquarters in Stamford, CT, but throughout my experiences, I’ve traveled to other Synchrony locations. These have been great trips where I’ve gotten to meet BLPs and see our operations around the country.

BLP STORIES

JAKE’S STORY

Each of my experiences was challenging, interesting and prepared me for further success.

Being an engineering major, I never thought about working in finance. But, I went to a campus event with free pizza, and here I am!

Seriously, Synchrony is an exciting place to work—I get to use my technical skills, work with great people, and our leadership invests in us and gives us real responsibility for key initiatives.

What is also really unique about the BLP is the variety of experiences I had in just two years. I grew in ways I didn’t know possible. Each experience was challenging, interesting, and prepared me for my current role as a Solutions Architect for multiple premier consumer retailers.

I work at our headquarters in Stamford, CT but occasionally get to travel to other Synchrony locations for projects, which is great because I get to see other BLP participants around the country.

BLP STORIES

SOFIA’S STORY

I let go, lived in the moment, and took every opportunity. It was…wow.

Even though I was a finance major, my passion was connecting with people and solving problems. That’s why I chose the Sales & Relationship Management track in Synchrony’s BLP. Even as an intern I learned the basics of relationship management, project management and cross-functional teaming. I also learned to golf during the BLP!

From my first days as an intern to today, people at Synchrony have always cared about me and throughout the three rotations, I’ve built authentic relationships. My network made it easier to be away from my family in Puerto Rico and even gave me lots of advice on how to prepare for my first real winter. The access to leadership gave me the opportunity to meet very smart and influential people, which helps get the job done. I have an amazing network across Synchrony thanks to the BLP.

I have developed into a truly well-rounded, cross-functional professional who is working towards to becoming a commercial leader in the future.

BLP STORIES

MANNY’S STORY

I’ve grown from Manny, into Manny the Leader in the BLP.

I joined the BLP after being an employee in Synchrony’s Call Center in Puerto Rico. I had worked in customer relations and stepping into the Sales & Relationship Management track was natural for me. Also, Synchrony is committed to helping us continually develop, and the BLP was a great step in my career.

The BLP opened many doors—learning about functions across our business, establishing relationships with senior leaders, engaging with our Diversity & Inclusion Networks and more. If we came up with an innovative idea in the BLP we were given full support to test it. I was pushed far outside my comfort zone, but the support is here, and the learning curve is expected and respected.

BLP STORIES

JASMINE’S STORY

My leaders empowered me to do things I didn’t know I could do.

I joined the Sales & Relationship Management track because I wanted to learn more about how customers interact with and experience the business world. I also wanted to focus on relationship building and influencing stakeholder decision-making.

I’ve gotten all of that, and also been stretched professionally and personally through challenging work. My leaders and peers empowered me to do things I didn’t know I could do. In my first role after the BLP—as a Sales Support Manager in Retail Card—I hit the ground running thanks to how the BLP accelerated my development.

Something else that’s really important to me is that diversity and giving back at Synchrony aren’t just buzzwords—they’re a way of life. Whether it’s working with our African American Network+, or campus recruiting, every day I’m recognized for what makes me unique and I’m learning to be an empathetic leader.

BLP STORIES

ZINIA’S STORY

The BLP pushed me out of my comfort zone, personally and professionally.

My top priority when starting my career was exposure to a variety of business areas. Synchrony’s rotational BLP program provided those opportunities at one company. Risk Management also aligned with my priorities because it is a critical component of the business that allows for a wide-lens view into all business functions.

An unexpected benefit is how much I’ve grown professionally and personally through being pushed outside of my comfort zone. I moved to new cities, presented to diverse audiences and was given important projects at an early stage.

I’ve finished the BLP now and looking forward to my ongoing success at Synchrony in my role as AVP, Operational Risk-Information Security.

BLP STORIES

ALEXIA’S STORY

I know I’m in the right place because I’m excited for Mondays!

The Risk Management track chose me, as I like to say. I had little idea of what it meant to work in Risk, but my BLP-Internship helped me quickly understand why risk is important and why my work is important to the business as a whole. The BLP took things to a whole other level for me with rotations through my track and diverse experiences.

The people at Synchrony make this a great place to work—they fully support my growth. The leadership is supportive, too. They value hearing from me and I get the opportunity to present directly to them on business issues. I like to joke and say you know you made the right decision when you look forward to Mondays, and I love Mondays!

I’ve completed the BLP now and have realized how much I’ve grown. I truly feel prepared for success at Synchrony and excited for my new role as AVP, Analytics and Reporting.

BLP STORIES

SUNYOUNG’S STORY

I have an incredible support network of leaders, mentors and peers.

I always wanted to go into marketing because I love sharing my knowledge with others. The Marketing track in the BLP gave me the opportunity to use my journalism major to do that and go even further—exploring different verticals of Synchrony’s business. Synchrony has helped me grow through my rotational assignments, cross-functional experiences, and involvement in diversity networks.

The moment I really saw everything that is incredible about the BLP come together was at our Symposium event. This company truly cares about each employee at every level and the investment in the BLP is unparalleled. I’ve gone far outside my comfort zone, grown personally and professionally, and met incredible leaders, mentors and peers.

I’ve finished the BLP now and very excited for my future at Synchrony. I’m looking forward to continuing to develop in my role as AVP, Client Marketing – Home Retail Brands.

BLP STORIES

MOLLY’S STORY

I love that I never have to be anything but Molly at Synchrony.

I knew that I wanted to work in marketing within the financial services industry, so the Marketing BLP track seemed like a natural fit. What set Synchrony apart was the people: kind but driven; ambitious but not aggressive. I love coming to work with them every day, and I never have to be anyone but Molly to fit in.

During my time in the Marketing track, I encountered two recurring themes: challenging myself and making a real impact on the business. I was given incredible opportunities that I know are unique to Synchrony. By the end of my time in the BLP program, I was confident that I had received a well-rounded, one-of-a-kind experience in Marketing that prepared me for my full-time role.

The BLP program put me on a path to success, and I’m so thankful that I get to call doing what I love my “job.”

BLP STORIES

JESSICA’S STORY

The BLP is perfect for getting a birds-eye view and making an immediate impact.

I’m driven by challenges where both strategy and detail are key—from doing research in the polymer chemistry lab in college, to today, where I’m providing confidence in Synchrony’s risk and control environment. That’s why I chose Internal Audit—I get a birds-eye view of our processes, risks and controls, and was able to jump right into the weeds and make an immediate impact.

Whether in my day-to-day, or in taking on special projects, I’ve worked directly with our Synchrony leadership throughout the program. They had confidence in me from day one, so I feel confident to be bold in everything I do.

Now that I’ve finished the BLP, I’m prepared for future success in my career at Synchrony. I’m looking forward to all that’s to come in my role as Internal Staff Auditor-Compliance.
